14th  Annual General Meeting Friday, November 6, 2009

 PRESIDENT’S REPORT

The following is the report of the activities of the St. Stanislaus College Association Barbados Chapter for the year 2008-2009.

 1)    MEMBERSHIP

The number of members remains at approximately fifty. While they maintain their

financial status for which we are grateful, the active participation is a much smaller number.

 2)    EXECUTIVE

Since the Association’s Constitution was changed to allow its Executive Committee to hold office for two (2) years, the membership of that Committee remains the same as the one elected on October 31, 2008, except for the Office of the Vice President, Mrs. Karen Dhani-Coonjah , which became vacant due to her relocating to Guyana because of her job.

 This is set out below:

President            ………………………    Gavin Ferreira

 Vice President    ………………………   Stanley Greaves

Secretary            ………………………    Richard Bhola

Asst. Secretary   ………………………   Kenneth Khan

Treasurer        …………………………    Clement Derrell

Past President    ……………………….  Pat Thompson

Exec. Committee Member    …………….  Sean Husain

 3)     ACTIVITIES

Our Beach Lime on May 2nd enabled some of us to enjoy a get-together, but it was

poorly attended partly due to the weather and just about broke even. We cancelled

our proposed Beach Lime on October 10th  because of lack of support.

 4)       ST. STANISLAUS COLLEGE REUNION, 2009

The Major Event of the Year for the College would clearly have been the St. Stanislaus

College Reunion 2009, which was held from Aug 16 –23 and was attended by the President, Immediate Past President, the Asst. Secretary along with some of the members of the Barbados Chapter.

All those who represented the Barbados Chapter by attending are to be commended on their contributions to the week of activities that were part of shaping the way forward for the College.

I would also like to take this opportunity to express my deep thanks and appreciation on behalf of the Executive to our Immediate Past President, Pat Thompson, who represented the Barbados Chapter as its spokesperson in many of the discussions. Pat was an integral player along with Dr. David Singh in articulating the Public / Private Partnership Approach to the way forward for Transforming Education in Secondary Schools, especially as it pertained to the College.

 5)  DONATION TO THE COLLEGE WORKSHOP

Following our return from the St. Stanislaus College Reunion 2009, the SSCA Barbados Chapter was approached by the College Association for a donation of cash to purchase  Machine Tools to help in the practical SBA’s at the College’s Workshop. The Association made a donation to the tune of G$ 140,304 (BDS$ 1407.25) The President of the SSCA, Mr. Nigel Hughes and Chairman of the Board of Governors, Mr. Chris Fernandes made the presentation of the Machine Tools on behalf of the Barbados Chapter.

 6)    THE WAY FORWARD FOR THE SSCA BARBADOS CHAPTER

Over the last year, the SSCA Barbados Chapter has been invigorated with young blood and has held meetings all year on a regular basis. These meeting have always been well attended and the discussions were held in an atmosphere of friendship, frankness and honesty.

The Executive have demonstrated their commitment to the College and we look forward to the upcoming year to enact some of the plans for fund raising and membership expansion that we so keenly discussed.

Finally, we recognise that some of our executive members may be leaving us to further their professional careers elsewhere and wish them the best of luck in their endeavors. However, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome the new members and to ask them to take up the mantle of their predecessors and let us continue the good work of our active members.

I ask that we use this opportunity to further the discussion on the way forward.

 Gavin Ferreira,

President

The St. Stanislaus College Association- Barbados, November 6, 2009
