Favorite memories of Saints
I have many memories of St. Stanislaus College, and perhaps the one that
left an indelible impression on my mind was my 1st
encounter with the Principal, Fr.
Brian Scannell S.J., in August 1948. He assured me that my father’s decision
to forego my County Scholarship to Queen’s College was a wise one and that I
would not regret the relocation to Saints. I made life-long friends during
my student days (1948-1955), and was influenced by the Jesuits on the staff
and a few of my contemporaries to enter the Jesuit Novitiate in UK in
September 1955.
The Barbados Alumni Association is
important for me, because I was a founder member in 1995, and have served as
President, Secretary and now as Ass. Sec. after the AGM held on October 31,
2008.
My departure from Guyana in 1980 and relocation to
Barbados was very abrupt, since I left incognito and was on the Black List
at the airport until I was advised by insiders that it was safe to return in
1989. I travelled on a Barbados Passport.
